No matter where you choose at the end of the day, return to your resort, and relax in a residential-style villa.
Here's some ways you can make your day trip to Reno unforgettable*.
Stroll the Riverwalk
The Truckee River separates Midtown from Downtown, providing a welcome splash of nature in the heart of the city. The parks and walkways around it are known collectively as the Riverwalk. It’s anchored by Wingfield Park, a scenic area to watch kayakers paddle by.
The Eddy is an urban playground where you can play cornhole and order drinks – and the bars there are built from cargo shipping containers. Nearby, Wild River Grille also overlooks the water.
If you're visiting on the third Saturday of the month, you can take part in the Wine Walk, hosted seasonally by local restaurants, bars, and shops.
Board the Animal Ark
Anyone who loves animals, but prefers to see them in a more natural habitat than a traditional zoo, will appreciate the Animal Ark. The nearly 40-acre non-profit wildlife sanctuary allows bears, cheetahs, tigers, foxes, and other creatures to roam free in large enclosures as part of its mission to rehabilitate and care for them. You can even take a walk with a hawk or falcon through the facility's Raptor Adventures. Reservations are required.
Explore the Emerging Arts Scene
As you meander through the downtown and midtown areas, you'll see dozens of murals that highlight Reno's growing reputation as a bona-fide arts community. The Nevada Museum of Art, downtown in the Liberty district, is the state's only accredited art museum. This status allows it to coordinate with the Smithsonian, National Archives, and others to bring major exhibitions to town.
The museum's dark, shoebox-shaped exterior is a piece of art itself, inspired by the Black Rock Desert with two gallery levels, a sculpture garden, and rooftop event space with spectacular city views.
For a different kind of art experience, visit the National Automobile Museum. It features a collection of more than 200 cars displayed in period settings.
Sample New Old-School Restaurants
Reno is ready to impress with a dining scene that's full of variety. Midtown draws locals to spots like Süp (a casual restaurant that specializes in soup), the upscale contemporary cuisine of LuLou's, and the Asian comfort food of Rice Box Kitchen. You can also indulge in Reno's rich culinary history with the multi-course, family style menus at Louis' Basque Corner and Casale's Halfway Club. Louis’ is a French-Basque restaurant established in 1967. Casale’s is a family-owned Italian place that dates back even farther to 1937.
Hit the Lanes
An attraction that might be right up your alley is the National Bowling Stadium. It features an astounding 78 lanes and room for more than 1,000 spectators — making it one of the largest bowling destinations in the world. It was famously used in the Bill Murray-Woody Harrelson movie "Kingpin," a favorite for anyone who's ever dreamed the dream when picking up a bowling ball.
Catch a Game Up Close
A baseball game just feels a little more special when the stadium is in the heart of a downtown. Greater Nevada Field, home to the Aces, a Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, is just minutes from the glow of casino marquees and the Reno Arch.
Every seat inside — even the general admission area in the outfield — has a good vantage point. And the atmosphere is festive, no matter the state of play. Should the Aces win, expect the celebration to continue long after the final out at one of the surrounding bars or restaurants.
